Creating FAKEbook Pages

Page history last edited by Jason Smith 15 years, 1 month ago

Students can create a FAKEbook page on a character from the story, or a civil rights leader highlighted in the Watson's Go to Birmingham Packet 4 (click here for list). Below are the directions to follow to make a FAKEbook page. The rubric from which students are graded from can be found here.

  1. The first steps we need to take in creating our FAKEbook pages is the research. Begin by using our research tools to gather some basic information on your historic figure. If they are a current figure (ie: Usher or Beyonce') Wikipedia may be a good place to start. If they are a sports figure (Cam Newton or Troy Polamalu) you could go to their team site. If they are historical (MLK or Rosa Parks) then World Book and Galileo are two of the best resources. AT THIS STAGE YOU SHOULD NOT BE LOOKING FOR PICTURES.

  2. Once you have some basic information, then you should begin working on the profile page. Use the template to begin adding and changing information. DO NOT USE PICTURES. Do not make any changes to the layout, just the information on it. If you move something by mistake IMMEDIATELY push the undo button (or ask a teacher if you do not know where it is).

  3. Once the basic information is chosen, then we can add pictures. You may use Google for your images if your person is current, but please let a teacher know when you begin. If you are searching for pictures on Google without teacher permission, you will complete the project on paper. If your person is a historical figure, World Book and Galileo have photo collections you can use.

  4. The last step in creating the social profile is to add posts from your person, add friends they may have had, and add posts from friends to the profile. You are not commenting on someone else's profile, you are making comments on your own pretending to be different people. Pretend you actually are your figure. Remember, when making the tweets (on Twitter) you can only use 144 characters, counting spaces, commas, periods, etc. What would they post? What things would they talk about? What things might their friends post?
